What does it mean to wear D or DD cups?

Do you remember the note about G and GG cups? I wanted to show you then what G and GG breasts really look like and bust the myths related with the perceived largeness of this cup. Today I want to do the same – but this time I’d like you to have a look at real D and DD cups. Thinking about this cup most people have a picture of big breasts in their mind. If we (I mean – the Lobbyists) try to convince a woman who wears a 34(70)B that her real size is 30D or 30DD, she’s usually shocked to hear that and voices a lot of protests, main of them being “I don’t have such big boobs”.  It’s not only women who misperceive the bra sizes, some bra manufectures are also of an opinion that D and DD cups belong to big boobs and that’s why it’s not necessary to produce bigger ones (as bigger ones can only be worn by some freaks of nature).

It’s high time to finish with this attitude. These harmul stereotypes make millions of women  in the world wear incorrect bra sizes. Ladies (and gentelmen – if any bothers to read this blog) – I’m giving you “Real D and DD busts” in correctly fitted bras- a collage made from photos that readers of Balkonetka post on that blog.  See for yourseves:

Are these really big breasts????

As you can see, these are slim girls with relatively small breasts. This colage has nothing to do with common belief about “dong” or “double dong” (from that stupid video from you tube that I posted in the note about G and GG cups)…

You may feel suprised though that there are only 28,30,32 and a few 34 bands on the photograph… Well, I agree bands higher than 34 (and also 28Ds) are not really represented here, mainly due to the fact that few wearers of 36 from Balkonetka haven’t sent their consent to use their photographs for this action. I’m still waiting for them to agree, then I’ll be able to replace the collage and show you a more represantative sample.

So far I would like to thank the following girls: alex24, elftherini, magdus, anulla1974, migotka, agugabi, espera_nza, amytyst89, sellenka, minimka, tigga, nivalis, gosha, ava.adore, sunako, sencha, jantarrka and minimka.

  1. It’s so good to meet another lobbyist!! I was so obsessed I have opened my own boutique to spread the word!

  2. Why I have never seen that project?? Have you linked it somewhere in the polish web-bra-community? 🙂

  3. I’ve read about the plans, but I’ve never seen it ready! Thanks:)

  4. Thanks for posting this! It gives the public a clearer idea of what well-fitted sizes look like. Likewise, I’m a 28C, and am very flatchested. Most people would not think of a ‘C’ cup as flat. My mom was surprised to hear that that’s my real size. “Is that a real size? I thought you’re a AA!”

I also recently saw an infomercial for the so-called “Genie Bra”, to provide women with support and comfort from uncomfortable regular bras. They come in sizes like S, M, L, etc. But fact is, those women weren’t wearing the right sizes to begin with! The Genie Bra would only mask their real fitting issues. Here’s their video on the “DD Challenge”.

I think those women really should be wearing F cups or larger.

  7. It is very difficult to find a 30 D or DD bra. Most stores, esp boutiques have 40+ for those sized bras. Frustrating for someone who knows her proper size, but can’t find it in “pretty” styles for a reasonable price (not cheap, I don’t want cheap, but reasonable, please)!

  8. I am a natural 32D, and I’ve always felt slightly uncomfortable with this. My boobs are average to slightly above average, which does not fit the stereotype of what a D-cup is. Even though I’ve been fitted by many different people, I always privately thought they were getting the measurements wrong, lol. It’s VERY reassuring to know that my boobs are totally normal. Thank you. This is a great project.

    • Ugh yeah I really need to show this to my parents. They are STILL thinking that a “D” cup is Christina Hendricks size, but I’d only be a 28D…. Grr they can be so annoying sometimes.

  9. An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a co-worker who was conducting a little research on this. And he actually bought me dinner simply because I stumbled upon it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this issue here on your blog.

  10. Thing is, if you’re skinny, a D cup isn’t that large. A 28D is essentially the same cup size as a 30C, 32B, or 34A. Same volume.

  11. I was wearing 36C for years. I got measured by one of these “Bra Whisperer” stores (they sell expensive but really nice European bras), and they came up with 32DD. They really do look much better.

  12. Im soooo flat chested. right now I have 34A bras (my mom will not buy me bigger because she thinks I am too tiny). Well the 34A….Yeah… the band rides up, my boobs are getting squished the straps fall off constantly (I am very short mind you) and I can not even wear nice shirts anymore because i look weird and squished! My mom claims to be a 34B(shes worn that size sinse she was 15), but i really do not think shes that small. my underbust measurement is (in inches) 29, and mt across measurement is 32…. I am really confused, any help?

    • I got your measurements in cm into Ewa Michalak bra calculator: http://www.ewa-michalak.pl/Size-Calculator-chelp-eng-10.html, it says 70(32)AA, but I suppose it’s a matter of trying things on. If 32A(A)B whereabouts do fit you correctly you’ll find those sizes in regular stores… Remember to relocate the under armpit fat back to the cups when you try new bras on 😉

      • Thank you! I’m going bra shopping soon, I can’t wait to try some on! Thank you for all of your help!

      • aww I”m not a 32AA, I even tried a 30A and the band was a bit loose, and the cups were way too small… could I be a 28C/D?!?

    • Cup size is determined by the difference b/w your underbust and your bust measurements. I’ve heard it’s 1 inch/cup (ie. A cup=1″, B cup=2″, C cup=3″, etc.). This may vary per person (as in, I can’t guarantee it’s accurate), but it’s a generalized guide to give you a place to start.
You have 3 inches difference. Unfortunately, you are an in between size of 29, so I’m not sure if 28 or 30in. band would fit you better. Keep in mind the sister sizes: when your band width increases, your cup size decreases (30DD, 32D, 34C, 36B, 38A all have the same volume of cup size, just different band lengths).

[Sister sizing explains the saying “DD=double dang”, as it refers to larger band women. People falsely assume that all DD cups are the same size, just a different band size.]

Perhaps try a 28C and 30C. If the volume fits, but the band width doesn’t of the 30C, adjust accordingly: 28D or 32B. If the cup is too big, but the band fits, then just take a smaller cup in the same band size. Make sense?

If you don’t believe “tiny”-chested women (as your mom calls you) can be a C cup, then Google “28C breasts” and you’ll get an idea. I’m not a pro, by any means, but does that help?

  13. I just found I’m a 36F I was wearing 34C, 36C’s and 38B’s I was wondering, my boobs don’t look that huge!? Any help?

    • I have the same problem! I’m a 32D and my breasts look much smaller than you would expect. When I told my friend my size, she said “you don’t look like it at all! I thought you were an A!” That was a major blow to my ego… T.T

  14. Ok, I actually DO have large breasts and I wear a 34D. If these girls are D cups, I would be a G. At which point I would feel very self conscious and disempowered by the idea that small breasts are now a D cup. Not cool.

    • Hmmm, if your breasts are really larger then the ones on the photos and you have a narrow frame, then you’re doing yourself a big disservice wearing a 34D. Nobody really sees what bra size you wear unless you tell them. Do I have to say that wearing a well fitted 32F/FF/G, whatever will do wonders for your whole figure and will make it seem optically lighter? It’s like a diet without actually dieting. Not to mention the fact that it’s much more comfortable.

Welcome to the real world where bra cups over D are completely normal and G cup is considered a middle of size chart (no matter the band size) – just average. Big breasts are those that need J/JJ/K/KK whereabouts (again, no matter the band size, even a 28K may look really big on a thin woman who’s at the same time tiny.

  15. I walked into a dressing room today wearing a 32b bra. After a fitting I left with three 30d bras. I was stunned – even though I know my correct bra size isn’t considered large. But, after seeing this website, I realize it is correct. And, my new bras fit well in the band and my entire boob fits in the cup without underwires poking me. Much more comfortable!

  17. Heh I must say I am one of those mis-informed who considered D or DD cup breasts quite big and this post made it much clearer for me. (I am a man btw) It is quite a shock actually because originally i would consider (and probably most of men audience) most of those ladies on screenshot to be A cup, maybe some of them closer to B but still. Then I looked on similar screenshot but for G/GG sizes (http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/3075/akcjanagfina.jpg) and those are what I originally considered C-D… 😀 For example that lady in red-dotted bra in 4th line. I would give her high C or D before I read this post.. so thx for correcting my believes even though its not really that essential for me as it is for ladies here but it is still good to know how it really is.

  18. Neat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your design. Thanks faefaagcckkc

  19. I wear a 32DD. Would I still be able to fit into a 32D??

    • I suppose only if a given bra has slightly more space in the cups… or if you experience fluctuations of size during your cycle – then it’s also possible that you may need a bigger size just before your menstruation when your breasts tend to be a bit inflated and then a smaller cup size after it’s over.
Otherwise trying to squeesh your 32DDs into a 32D will compromise your good looks and comfort. Do you want to look bad/not as good as you could and feel awkward at the same time?

  20. I was wearing a 34C and got measured by two professionals that both said I should be a 32 DD. Like everyone else I was shocked. But they fit and look great. Where does the 32 come into factor and the DD come into factor? Is one the chest size and the other “boob” size?

  21. I’m glad for this site.It hekps us large breasted women.Cathy
